After I cross stitched in the palm tree, I created a blue border to keep the cut aida cloth from unraveling where I had cut it out. Next time I will create a border around the cut piece of cloth to prevent this from happening.
Cross stitching in the sky around the palm tree is a very time oriented task, but I feel like I am finally, but slowly, coloring in the sky with cloth. Since I also love to create are with colored pencils, I do find similarities between this and cross stitching.
More of the sky is being cross stitched in around the trees.
It was quite exciting when I got to the point that there was only a small triangle left to cross stitch on the bottom right hand portion of the sky. Getting near the end of this cross stitching project is quite fulfilling, and it is exhilarating to know this piece is based on a drawing that I created myself. So if you enjoy cross stitching, just keep in mind it is possible to design your own pieces.
The other day I started the process of cross stitching the branches on the palm trees I drew on a piece of aida cloth. First, I cross stitched in the darker portions of the branches with a dark green color of coton thread.
This video illustrates how the dark and light portions of the branches looked as I continued cross stitching these on the aida cloth.
The photograph below illustrates what the cross stitched palm tree looked like after I have finished filling in all of the branches with the dark and light green colors.
I always have many projects going at once, but one thing I have been working on from time to time is designing a palm tree image on a piece of aida cloth. After I finish cross stitching on the image I plan on framing it and hanging this palm tree needle art on the wall.
Some people plan out the designs for crossing stitching with graph paper, and I had considered doing that at first, but I thought it might just be a bit more fun to draw the design directly on the cloth. After I finished drawing the palm tree design on the cloth, it was time to start cross stitching the major lines on the palm tree branches. I am using a dark green shade of thread to do this, and I will be using a lighter shade for the rest of the palm tree branches, and fronds on the tree.
